Direct Democracy Australia with Tom Blackford - More choice about how Australians are governed.

Direct democracy is designed to complement Australia's existing parliamentary system, not replace it. Parliament remains essential for day-to-day governance, legislative debate, and policy implementation.
Parliament's Role Continues: Drafting legislation, managing budgets, holding government accountable, and handling routine policy matters.
Direct Democracy Adds: Public input on major constitutional changes, citizen votes on significant policy decisions, and increased transparency through direct participation. - https://directdemocracyau.org

Tom Blackford is someone whose journey, in many ways, mirrors my own. He’s worked in mental health as a social worker since 1987 and continues today as a private counsellor, after his public role came to an end during the COVID vaccine mandates in late 2021.
For most of his life, he wasn’t particularly interested in politics. But the lockdowns and mandates in Australia became a turning point, prompting him to look more closely at government decisions, media narratives, and how much influence ordinary citizens really have over the policies that shape their lives.
With more time to research and connect with others, he became especially interested in the idea of Citizen-Initiated Referenda, a form of direct democracy inspired by the Swiss model.
That growing interest in citizen participation and democratic reform is what ultimately led him to get involved with and support Direct Democracy Australia, helping raise awareness about giving people a more direct voice in state and national decision-making.
